Ingredients
- 1 400gm block tofu3 tabsp cornflour #1 2 tabsp rice flour #1 ½ teasp salt #1 ½ teasp black pepper #11 tabsp minced garlic ½ teasp grated ginger 3 tabsp tomato sauce #2 1 tabsp soy sauce #2 2 tabsp Obento rice wine vinegar #2 1 tabsp sugar #2 1 tabsp mirin 2 tabsp honey 2 tabsp Korean Gochujang paste #2 3 tabsp water #21 spring onion – chopped ½ chilli – cut into fine strips 1 tabsp toasted sesamine seeds
Method
- Ingredients 1 400gm block tofu Pat dry and cut into bite size cubes Set aside 3 tabsp cornflour #1 2 tabsp rice flour #1 ½ teasp salt #1 ½ teasp black pepper #1 Mix #1 in a large bowl and set aside Sauce 1 tabsp minced garlic ½ teasp grated ginger 3 tabsp tomato sauce #2 1 tabsp soy sauce #2 2 tabsp Obento rice wine vinegar #2 1 tabsp sugar #2 1 tabsp mirin 2 tabsp honey 2 tabsp Korean Gochujang paste #2 3 tabsp water #2 Mix #2 in a bowl Heat 1 tabsp oil in wok under low flame Fry chopped garlic until they turn light golden in colour Pour the sauce and stir gently Add more water if the sauce is too thick. Taste sauce and adjust to suit personal preference Retrieve and set aside for it to cool down. Ingredients for garnishing 1 spring onion – chopped ½ chilli – cut into fine strips 1 tabsp toasted sesamine seeds Cooking Heat oil in a wok and lower flame to medium to low Gently toss the tofu cubes with mixture #1 in a large bowl for even coating. Fry the tofu in batches to avoid over crowding When they turn light golden in colour, retrieve and set aside Repeat above process until all tofu are fried. Increase flame to high Put tofu cubes in again and fry for another 1 minute until they turn golden in colour Retrieve and set aside on a tray lined with kitchen paper to soak any excess oil. Note: It is suggested that the next step should be done just before serving so that the tofu cubes remain crispy. Put the fried tofu cubes in a large mixing bowl Pour the sauce over the tofu gently while tossing for even coating. Transfer the tofu on a serving plate. Sprinkle sesamine seeds, chopped spring onion and chilli strips over the plate for garnishing. Serve and enjoy….
