By: Queenie Lau
Ingredients
- 1.5 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 800 grams frozen taro
- 2 Chinese preserved sausage
- A handful of dried shrimp
- 5 shiitake mushrooms
- 240 grams rice flour
- 1.5 cup boiling water
- 3 teaspoon chicken bullion powder
Product used in recipe
- LEE KUM KEE - PREMIUM OYSTER SAUCE
Method
- Dice up all the fresh ingredients and fry in a pot.
- Add enough water just to cover the taro and boil on medium-high until it's almost a mash. Mash and mix everything together with a spatula.
- Add 1.5 cup water and rice flour to the pot and mix well.
- Add chicken bullion and oyster sauce to taste. Keep boiling everything on medium heat and turn off.
- Transfer to a container and smooth the surface. Steam over a pot of boiling water for 10-15 minutes. You can either cut and eat it steamed or you can cut it in rectangular slices and pan fry it to have it yum cha style. This is a traditional Chinese New Year dish as eating it is meant to signify bringing things to a new height in the new year (e.g. studies, career, wealth...etc).
