The Bowl That Made Me Miss Japan

Ingredients
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 cup short grain rice
- 2 cups water
- 250 grams sashimi grade tuna
- 2 tbsp mirin
- 2 tbsp cooking sake
- 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
- Fresh wasabi (to taste)
Product used in recipe
- OBENTO - MIRIN SEASONING
Method
- Wash thoroughly the rice (enough so that the water is clear when water comes through).
- Soak the rice in the water for 30 mins.
- Cook rice according to preference (I used the microwave as the instructions on the packet). Took 15 minutes, using 1 cup of rice to 2 cups water.
- While the rice soaks prepare the tuna marinate. Mix all the wet ingredients (soy, mirin, sake) in a small bowl. Thinly slice the tuna sashimi and incorporate into the mixture. Place the tuna into the fridge to cool whilst waiting.
- When the rice has finished take out of microwave (or stove/rice cooker) and rest for 5 mins. Meanwhile seperate the egg white from the yolk.
- After 5 mins, time to put all the ingredients together. First the rice in a bowl, then layer the tuna around the bowl. Then place the egg yolk in the middle. Lastly place as much wasabi as the heart desires and serve!
